Hello. I’m John Carlson – One-half of John & Dave- and I’m proud to be working with my business partner David Maitre, providing what I believe is the best solution to the needs of home buyers and sellers in our marketplace!
I’m a family man, very happily married for 21 years to my wife, Kimiko. We have two awesome and much-loved sons, living together in Maple Ridge for the past 20 years. As anyone with a family might guess, our personal time not working is usually spent together and with our sons’ school and social events. We are members of our local Burnet Fellowship Church and our friends know we love to entertain at our home. I’ve been a music lover since I was a kid and although I can’t play a note on any instrument, I collect and appreciate all kinds of good music- Jazz, Blues, 50’s – 90’s Rock and Pop, and especially live recordings of my favourite artists. I’m also a small time collector and big time fan of classic cars, especially Canadian Pontiacs and full-size Chevrolets of the 1960’s.
I have to admit to being lucky. I was born in Vancouver in 1968, and my family moved to Maple Ridge soon afterward. I went to Maple Ridge and Yennadon elementary schools before attending Maple Ridge Secondary, where I graduated in 1986. I think it is fair to say that I was obsessed with basketball and earning a college scholarship. Our MRSS Ramblers won the provincial championship in 1986, and I was awarded first team all-star and outstanding player of the championship game. I was also recognized as a student athlete and was invited to attend with about 300 other local guests a dinner with Prince Charles and Lady Diana during their 1986 visit to Vancouver.
After high school I attended UBC and played for the Thunderbird’s men’s varsity team 1986/87 before accepting scholarships to North Idaho College 1988-89 and Regis University in Denver 1990-91, where I finished my basketball career while also achieving a spot on the Academic Dean’s list, majoring in business administration.
After University, and a few years working in the hardwood flooring industry, I decided to follow my dream of becoming a Real Estate Agent, and earned my license in 1996. I learned the business at local Royal LePage and Remax offices, going through their training programs there, and became successful, earning multiple Medallion Club (Top 10%) awards and building a strong clientele during my 13 years in what you might call the “traditional real estate business model.”
During the 2000–2008 time period, I noticed some significant changes happening in my industry. House prices went up dramatically and accordingly, so did commissions. Not coincidentally, the number of licensed real estate agent’s went through the roof. And it was also during this period that I noticed a growing resistance among the public in general to the high commissions that were (are) “company policy” at the vast number of offices in my area. It dawned on me that consumers wanted better value from real estate agents, and with all of the other changes happening in the industry (Technology, Agency, and Competition rules- to name a few), consumers were more empowered than ever before. I knew consumers were bound to get better value regardless of what I did in my own business. I also knew I had a choice- to either resist the changes in my industry or to embrace them.
In May 2010 I embraced the changes and made one of my own – a big one. I made the move to One Percent Realty. I knew that consumers wanted better value but didn’t want to sacrifice in the areas of service and professionalism. I decided to combine top-notch real estate service with unbeatable value, knowing it would lead to even greater success, and it did. Year after year I am one of the top selling real estate agents in the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver, with several President’s Club (Top 1%) and placements in the top 100 Selling Agents in the REBGV. I have a spotless record with the Real Estate Council of BC and a long list of very happy clients.
Dave and I work closely together, and there is no doubt in my mind that we are the smart choice when it comes time to sell your home. We sold 225 homes in 2015 and 2016 because we are both very capable and experienced agents who offer outstanding value. We believe in our business model, and we save our clients significant money in commission costs. We offer a unique combination of Experience, Savings, and Results. We are ready willing and able to work for you! So give us a call or a quick email, and we will be there for you. It’s free, and you have nothing to lose. Why pay more?
