My name is David Maitre. I currently live in Maple Ridge with my wife of 17 years, Monique, and our 3 children. I’ve been a licensed real estate agent since 2005, and for the past several years, I’ve been proud to be working with my business partner, John Carlson.
Born in Ontario, I split the first several years of my life between living in the Toronto and Windsor areas, where I still have lots of immediate and extended family. We moved to Port Coquitlam when I was a teenager, where I attended George Pearkes Junior secondary, and graduated from Terry Fox Senior Secondary in 1996. As one of the school’s top students, I was awarded several scholarships to attend UBC, where I studied mechanical engineering.
During my UBC studies, I started dating Monique, and as we were inseparable, it didn’t take long for us to figure out that we should get married. I took a break from my studies during which time we got married, and spent a number of months backpacking through Europe on our “roughing-it” honeymoon – which was quite an experience. I returned to UBC after returning from Europe.
Upon leaving UBC, I decided that, while I enjoyed the technical challenges that engineering provided, I wanted to work in a field that allowed me to more closely work with people and that offered more variation in day-to-day activities. I started a couple of small companies, and worked my way into sales, where I quickly appreciated the fact that a person’s success is only limited by their skill and by how much work they put in. Flourishing in that type of environment, I obtained my real estate license in 2005.
In 2006, my first full calendar year as a real estate agent, I was awarded the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver’s “Rookie of the Year” award, which recognized the top-selling new agent by volume, regardless of brokerage – as I outsold all new agents in the REBGV area that year. Since then, I have often been in the top 1or 2% of all agents within the REBGV, having consistently achieved membership in the Medallion Club (top 10%) and several President’s Club (top 1%) placements. I joined forces with John Carlson in 2013, and since then, we’ve formed one of the busiest partnerships around.
In my off time, I love being with my family and around nature. Few things make me happier than being in a cottage in the woods with my wife and kids around a campfire. When the local weather allows, we like to go camping and fishing, and my wife and I take my children for our annual summer camping road trip where we’ll explore various national parks and small towns through North America. Weekly, my family and I can found at the Maple Ridge Alliance Church, where our kids always seem to know more about what’s going on than we do.
Music has always been a big part of my life. I’ve played the saxophone for about 25 years, having started in elementary schools, but since, playing with various jazz and community bands. I also love learning new instruments, having played lots of instruments over the years, from the clarinet to the trumpet and trombone. Currently I dabble somewhat on the guitar and I am learning piano, mostly from my 9 year old daughter, who is quick to scold me if I get the fingering wrong. As we believe music should be an important part of everyone’s life, all of our kids have been taking music lessons since very little.
I have an insatiable curiosity about almost everything, which makes me a strong believer in being a life-long learner. I enjoy reading about various topics, and I am (very slowly) working my way towards an MA from Regent College, which is located at UBC.
I feel that regardless of what a person does, it should be done to the best of his or her ability with the utmost in honesty and integrity, and I try to live my life this way on a day-to-day basis.
